My approach to hoof care

I work with owners to develop a plan during consultation, when each horse’s unique conformation is evaluated and considered along with their history, lifestyle, and the type of work they perform. Trimming and shoeing methods vary based on these factors but the goal is always to achieve and maintain the optimum balance, comfort, support, and ease of movement for each horse.

CERTIFICATION AND CREDENTIALS

After attending the Kentucky Horseshoeing School, I was fortunate to apprentice with several of the most skillful and qualified farriers in New England before passing my Certified Farrier Exams. It’s an absolute privilege to be part of a community of skilled tradespeople who have made the choice to prioritize ongoing advancement our abilities and knowledge through certification, competition, and community building. I’ve been blessed to find my life’s purpose in serving the horses of my community and their owners. I believe it is our duty as farriers to pursue voluntary continued education of equine anatomy and physiology, pathology, horsemanship, and the practical skills of trimming and forging.

I volunteer for the Vermont Farrier’s Association’s board of directors and help to organize their events. Through out each year, I attend competitions, intensive continuing education programs and clinics in the US and Canada and am currently in the process of attaining Certified Journeyman Farrier.

I evaluate each horse individually based on conformation, history, environment, and soundness

The equine hoof is a truly miracle of biomechanical evolution, capable of withstanding extreme forces and allowing horses to perform incredible feats. Each horse presents a unique set of attributes through factors such as conformation, stance, and gait. Analysis of these elements along with consideration of the horse’s lifestyle and environment come together to inform every decision made to benefit the animal. I enjoy working with a team-based approach to create a system that works best to serve the horse. I am happy to work with your vet, and any equine practitioners whose skills help your horse feel and perform their best.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

“Emily has gone above and beyond for my aging horses. My older guy is able to go out on the trails again after nearly 2 years off. His feet being better has made a huge difference in every area of his life. When our late mare with cushings was battling severe laminitis, Emily was a life saver on multiple occasions. Her patience, her skill, her precision, she is a literal miracle worker! ”
